What Marley Farm keeps
Written for parents. Marley Farm is made for kids and teens, so it asks nothing about who is playing, and keeps as little as it can.
There are no ads and no chat. The game never asks for a name, an email, a birthday, a photo or where anybody lives. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone. The first season is free; the rest of the year is CA$12.99, once, bought by a grown-up on Stripe's own page.
On your child’s device
The browser keeps the farm itself, so play can pick up where it left off: the day, the money, the buildings, the horses and how they are doing. It also keeps a few small notes: whether the music is off, which release notes have been read, and the farm’s code. All of it stays in the browser. Clearing the browser’s data for marleyfarm.app removes it.
On this site
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A copy of the farm, under its farm code | So the farm is not lost if the browser is cleared, and can be carried to another device by its code. The copy holds the game, the day it is on, when it was saved, and a random number for the device it came from. Nothing in it says who is playing. | Until it is deleted (below) |
| Error reports | When something breaks in the game, the game sends what went wrong, which version it was, and whether it was a phone, a tablet or a computer and which kind of browser. No farm and nothing about the player goes with it. | Until the owner has fixed them and clears them |
| A sign-in cookie | While the game is private, one cookie remembers that this browser was let in with the code. It is the only cookie the game sets. | 30 days |
| An internet address, briefly | When a wrong code is typed, the address it came from is kept to slow down anyone guessing codes. | 15 minutes |
| An unlock, if a grown-up buys one | That the farm is unlocked, kept under a hash of its farm code, with the amount, the country of the card and the date. Stripe takes the payment on its own page and keeps the card, the receipt and the grown-up's email; this site never sees them. Cards from Canada and the United States only; any other is refunded. | As long as the farm is kept |
| Visit counts | Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits to the site, and which countries and kinds of device they come from. It sets no cookies and does not follow anyone from site to site. | Counts only |
Who runs it, and who sees it
The site runs on Cloudflare, which carries the pages to the browser the way any web host does. The owner of Marley Farm is the only person who can see the farm copies and the error reports, and only uses them to keep the game working.
Deleting a farm
- In the game: Pause, then Farm code, then Delete this farm. It asks twice. The copy on this site is deleted, and you choose whether to delete it from the device too.
- Or send the farm code to the owner and ask for it to be deleted.
Questions
